Sechelleptus arborivagus sp. nov., a new arboreal spirostreptid millipede (Diplopoda, Spirostreptidae) endemic to Mayotte Island (Comoros Archipelago), Indian Ocean

چکیده
A new millipede species of the genus Sechelleptus Mauriès, 1980 is described and illustrated from Mayotte Island, Indian Ocean. This species, S. arborivagus sp. nov., found on trees, looks particularly similar to sympatric variabilis VandenSpiegel & Golovatch, 2007, but much larger has a very different ecological behavior. Phylogenetic analyses based concatenated dataset COI 16S rRNA genes including nine Spirostreptidae (including Sechelleptus, Doratogonus Attems, 1914, Bicoxidens 1928 Spirostreptus Brandt, 1833), strongly support monophyly Sechelleptus. Despite similarity their genitalia, molecular also reveal clear-cut genetic divergence between nov. (22.55% for 6.63% 16SrRNA) further suggest presence higher diversity within Mayotte.

Description of three new caddisfly species from Mayotte Island, Comoros Archipelago (Insecta: Trichoptera)
We report five new species records from the Comoros Archipelago. Two of the species are known from outside the Archipelago, Hydroptila cruciata Ulmer (Hydroptilidae) and Anisocentropus voeltzkowi Ulmer (Calamoceratidae), and three species are described as new to science: Pisulia stoltzei ,new species (Pisuliidae), and: Chimarra mayottensis, new species and Chimarra koulaeensis, new species (Phi...
متن کاملMillipede (Diplopoda) distributions: A review
In spite of the basic morphological and ecological monotony, integrity and conservatism expressed through only a small number of morphotypes and life forms in Diplopoda, among which the juloid morphotype and the stratobiont life form are dominant, most of the recent orders constituting this class of terrestrial Arthropoda are in a highly active stage of evolution. This has allowed the colonisat...
متن کاملSequevar Diversity and Virulence of Ralstonia solanacearum Phylotype I on Mayotte Island (Indian Ocean)
The genetic and phenotypic diversity of the Ralstonia solanacearum species complex, which causes bacterial wilt to Solanacae, was assessed in 140 strains sampled from the main vegetable production areas of the Mayotte island. Only phylotype I strains were identified in the five surveyed areas. The strains were distributed into the following 4 sequevars: I-31 (85.7%), I-18 (5.0%), I-15 (5.7%), a...
متن کاملSeroepidemiology of Dengue Virus in Mayotte, Indian Ocean, 2006
BACKGROUND Although Dengue virus (DENV) circulation had been documented in neighbouring South-western Indian Ocean Islands, its presence in Mayotte is poorly characterised. To address this issue, we aimed to assess the seroprevalence of dengue IgG antibodies (DENV-IgG Ab) among the population and to investigate potential associations with individual and household characteristics. METHODS/PRIN...
متن کاملBacillus luciferensis sp. nov., from volcanic soil on Candlemas Island, South Sandwich archipelago.
Aerobic, endospore-forming bacteria were found in soil taken from an active fumarole on Lucifer Hill, Candlemas Island, South Sandwich archipelago. Amplified rDNA restriction analysis, SDS-PAGE, repetitive element primed-PCR (rep-PCR) and routine phenotypic tests suggested that six of the isolates represent a novel taxon, and 16S rDNA sequence comparisons support the proposal of a novel species...
